BEST PRACTICES IN 2017-2018
Best Practice - 1
1. Title of the Practice: Distribution of saplings to the faculty members, staff and students and
planting of tree saplings inside the campus on Independence and Republic days.
2. Objective: To promote protection and expansion of Green cover both inside and outside the
campus to minimize the Air Pollution by motivating the students and faculty members.
3. Context: The air quality is deteriorated by Particulate Matter (PM) which is one of the most
widely monitored pollutants in India. When the build-up of the Particulate Matter exceeds the
safety limit, major health problems may crop up for the people living in and breathing the
polluted air everyday. To reduce the ramification of this problem, expansion of Green cover
plays a vital role. The trees absorb the Particulate Matter and reduce their presence in the air,
thereby controlling the pollution in the atmosphere.
4. The Practice: Both the Independence and Republic days are celebrated in the Institution
regularly. As part of the celebrations, the tree saplings are planted inside the campus by
faculty members of the Institution. Also tree saplings are distributed at free of cost to the staff
th
and students. For instance during the 69 Republic Day, total number of 69 tree saplings were
th
planted and distributed. This practice is followed from 15 August 2016 regularly.
5. Evidence of Success: The tree saplings which are planted inside the campus are watered and
monitored. The faculty members who have received and planted the saplings are coming
forward and giving suggestions for improving the practice being followed at present. This
gives the confidence that the message of necessity for promoting the Green Cover to reduce the
pollution in the atmosphere reaches the society.
6. Problems Encountered and Resources Required: It is difficult to water the plants/trees
which are planted at locations away from the water sources inside the campus.
