Department of Biotechnology

The Department of Biotechnology was established in the year 2013. The department offers Undergraduate programme in Biotechnology (B.Tech) and recently a new Undergraduate programme in Chemical Engineering (B.Tech) has also been initiated. The Department has well qualified and experienced faculty strength who constantly motivates, inspires and guides the students for their personal growth and to become technically competent. The Department is booming with all the essential facilities and infrastructure to cater the needs of the students and the society. The research specialization of the department includes drug discovery and is constantly striving for the industrial collaboration for downstream processing of bio-based products.

National Conference / Seminar / Symposium

  1. Two days National Conference and workshop on “New Paradigms in the Development of Biotechnology in Healthcare & Emerging Nanomaterials for Healthcare Applications” was organized on 15th and 16th February, 2017.
  2. A One day National Seminar on ‘Frontiers in Bioprocess Technology’ was organized on 21st January, 2016. Eminent speakers from Industry (Dr. Soumen Mukherjee, Manager R&D, Senthil Papain and Food Products (P) Ltd., Coimbatore), Research Laboratory (Dr. Binod Parameswaran, Scientist, NIIST, Trivandrum), Academia (Dr. Shanmuga Prakash, Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore and Dr. Meenakshi Sundaram, SASTRA University, Thanjavur) enlightened the student minds in various fields of Bioprocess Technology.
  3. The first Technical Symposium, KLONAZURA 2K16 was organized on 4th February, 2016. Dr. Joshy Cherian, Managing Director, M/s. Omega Ecotech Products delivered the Inaugural address and gave a lecture on Recent Trends in Commercializing Biotechnology to the young aspirants. Various technical and Non-technical events were scheduled and received an overwhelming response from the student community.
  4. An one day National seminar on ‘Recent advances in nanotechnology and its biological applications’ was organized on 08.09.16. Eminent speakers from various academic institutions threw lights on the recent advances and applications of nanotechnology on the participants. Participants from various reputable institutions attended the seminar and were benefited.

Skill Development Programme

  1. A Skill Development Programme on Open source Drug discovery tools and Indispensable Molecular Techniques were arranged for III and II year students from 15.11.16 to 17.11.16.

social activities

  1. Departmental Extension Activity was organized on 23.01.2016. The students of Biotechnology department were encouraged to do social activities. Awareness program on Environmental issues and a program on Health and Hygiene were conducted at Myleripalayam and Seerapalayam villages.
  2. Awareness programme on Non Communicable Diseases and Healthy Food Exhibition and Environmental Pollution and its control measures in Myleripalayam and Elour villages in Coimbatore on 17.09.16 were given.
